From one House MD to another Hugh provides a great quote: "Winning doesn't teach you anything. You win. End of Story. But the losing and what you take from it - that's the interesting bit."
So true - and I might add, it's the trying and doing that counts in life, not our list of failures, mistakes or bad choices. This applies in life AND in decorating.
Don't be afraid to try - pick a new color, try a curtain in a different place, be bold with your paint choices, see how just shifting items from one room to another - how different they can look. You might just amaze yourself with the transformation.
Redesign is about you - let your home tell the story of your life!
Till next time...Happy Decorating!

Happy Valentine's Day
On Valentine's Day, it is only appropriate to mention a matter of the heart. The home is your haven, your heart, your life. And redesign honors that - it is about creating a home, not just a house, but a home - your place of respite, renewal and rest using the things you own, that are special to you and really tell the story of your life.
When I decided to become a Redesigner, I looked for the support organization that I would work with to help me grow and develop my skill set. I am very fortunate to be a member of IRIS (Interior Redesign Industry Specialists) as our entire organization is all about redesign and home staging. Redesigners help one another to grow their businesses, solve client problems and be another set of eyes and ears to celebrate successes, lift up others when they need it and be a source of inspiration.
As part of being a member of IRIS, we support NOCC - the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. We know this cancer is a killer and deserves attention and monetary support to help eradicate it. With our support, IRIS members provide one room redesign at no charge to any woman dealing with ovarian cancer. If you or someone you know is living with ovarian cancer and would like a room redesign, please contact me. Some of the women who had a redesign done, said it was a wonderful experience and let them focus on the future and creating a place for them to heal and begin to look forward.
Just another reason I love being a Redesigner and a member of IRIS and in honor of Valentine's Day, I thought it appropriate to share something close to my heart.
Happy Valentine's Day! Till next time...

Great Show on Oprah - clear the clutter
Oprah's show today (I've got it recording - as when I walked in this afternoon, it sounded very intriguing). was all about "This is Your Year" - a new you, and how to go about it. Today's topic was about clutter and disorganization and what havoc it can cause in your life.
This is true - often times, I will tell clients, we have to first stop the chaos then we can start redesigning. The best thing you should take away from it is - YOU are not alone. There a lots and lots of really good people struggling with clutter and too much stuff.
The best thing I do is help you start. We start with simple piles in one room. And we get it done. So if you are struggling or in pain with too much stuff - sometimes an organizer and redesigner is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
We can get you on the right path! As the FlyLady says (www.flylady.com) - CHAOS - can't have anyone over syndrome - we can stop it TODAY! Call me 727-488-0212.
Till then...Happy Decorating (or organizing or surviving the clutter...)

Ooh, technology can be frustrating!
As a rule, I'm pretty handy with technology, but last night, my usb cable decided it did not want to play with my camera. And that was not a good thing.
I had 5 different clients's photo sets on there (I told you it's been busy since the home show) and seriously had about 100 photos that I needed to download and then print, file in each clients folder and one of my clients I am submitting their room into an room redesign contest - and the deadline is fast approaching!
Anyway, I spent 3 HOURS this morning researching and trying to solve the issue to no avail. Then I tried the cable on our home pc, and boom worked first time, no problem! Then I just had to save the photos to a share directory that I could then load back onto my laptop and blah, blah, blah - it was just a lot of work.
Nevertheless - "The House M.D." conquers technology! Redesigns, decorating, paint consultations - no problem - getting photos off the camera - nightmare! :-)
Till next time...Happy Decorating!

Wow - It's been crazy!
The homeshow was Jan. 26-28 and we were busy!! Lots of folks coming to the show and I booked lots of appointments. 20 at the show alone - lots of people that love redesign and totally get it, love HGTV and TLC and want to try for their home.
I had so much fun meeting lots of new folks and I'm so excited to get working for everyone.
I also had a presentation at the Countryside Country Club on Jan. 30 and that was so great. We had about 30 ladies (and a few husbands) there and had so much fun discussing decorating. My presentation was on Top 10 Decorating Mistakes (and their solutions) and we just had a good time. Everyone was so friendly and asked great real-world questions. After all, we don't live in a decorating magazine, we live in our homes - so I got to share some cool ideas.
One of the dilemmas was about - kids room and too much stuff. Bet you have this problem too. Anyway - I say involve the kids and start talking about what are their top 10 favorite. This helps you get a feel for what they really love, rather than just trying to sneak out toys in the night. Once you know what they really love, think about other ways to thin out the clutter. Perhaps, group all the bunnies (that aren't in the top 10), and take a picture of them with your child. Then create a scrapbook page together or a collage of the photos and then hang that in their room. You are honoring them and their things and teaching respect at the same time.
That's what so great about redesign - it's all about you and your stuff and how we can show off what you love, and creatively store or remove what doesn't need a place of honor.
Till next time, happy decorating!
